As part of Black History Month, Komola Collective ran a Scriptwriting Workshop for Half Moon Theatre.
As a starting point, we used the play 'Map of Me', which was about the experiences of being a refugee in Britian. This involved a rapid-write workshop, took participants through a series of quick-fire writing exercises to create character relationships and imaginative theatrical worlds. This was a good opportunity to enhance the participants’ understanding of the craft of playwriting.
'The workshop was really important in terms of showing our participants that they’re writers outside of their normal workshop space. The exercises were made really accessible through fun and dynamic physical exercises and all of the young people came out with a real confidence boost after finishing the session by sharing their monologues.
